Wood Island Lighthouse

Wood Island Lighthouse
Wood Island Lighthouse

Wood Island Lighthouse, located off the coast of Biddeford, Maine, is the state’s second-oldest lighthouse, established in 1808 under President Thomas Jefferson. The current 47-foot conical granite tower, completed in 1858, stands 71 feet above sea level and features an automated beacon that alternates between green and white flashes every 10 seconds. The lighthouse is maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard, with restoration efforts supported by the Friends of Wood Island Lighthouse (FOWIL).

Visitors can access the lighthouse via seasonal tours offered in July and August. Tours depart from Vines Landing in Biddeford Pool and include a 15-minute boat ride, a half-mile walk along a boardwalk, and guided visits to the keeper’s house and lighthouse tower. Reservations are required, and tour fees are $35 for guests aged 13 and above, and $20 for those under 13.

For more information and to make reservations, please visit the official Wood Island Lighthouse website.
