Saco, Maine’s New Splash Pad Is Now Open!

A brand-new splash pad has officially opened in Saco, Maine — and it’s quickly becoming a favorite spot for families looking to cool off on warm summer days. Located next to the Saco Community Center at 75 Franklin Street, this free public space is designed for fun, safety, and accessibility.

A Community Effort

The splash pad was made possible through a major community partnership. Fundraising was led by the Biddeford-Saco Rotary Club, with generous support from businesses like Ready Seafood (a $45,000 sponsor), Saco-Biddeford Savings, Atlantic Comfort Systems, Maine Community Bank, and Aquaboggan Water Park.

Construction began in fall 2024 and included the work of local companies such as CCB Construction, Moulison Heavy Electric, Jim Godbout Plumbing & Heating, and CVS Foundations & Excavation.

The grand opening and ribbon cutting took place on May 21, 2025, with city officials, families, and community partners celebrating the project’s completion.

About the Splash Pad

This interactive water play area features misting arches, spray jets, and timed water play sessions activated by the push of a button. Each cycle runs for 20 minutes, giving kids plenty of time to splash around before restarting.

The splash pad was designed with accessibility in mind, making it welcoming for children of all ages and abilities. With its smooth surfaces and user-friendly setup, it’s an inclusive space for everyone to enjoy.

Our Thoughts

I want to start out by saying I’m not a playground kind of mom. There are a million things I’d rather do with my kids than go to a playground (they feel so dangerous to me and my kids just don’t do well with transitions away from them – similar to a child having their iPad taken away). So I went into this outing with an open mind and my fingers crossed.

We visited right after school one day, hoping for a smaller crowd size before parents got home from work and surprisingly, we all really loved it! I was pleasantly surprised with how large it ended up being, the accessibility features, and the no-slip surface.

There are bathrooms close by as well as a full playground right next door. Parking was super easy on this day, but I imagine it could get busy and harder to find parking as we enter into the summer months so keep this in mind.

📍 Saco, Maine – Brand new splash pad alert! 💦 After all the rain we’ve gotten, we finally were able to check out the new splash pad at the Saco Community Center and it’s so worth the stop! ✅ Designed with accessibility in mind with flush ground surface ✅ Easy water access (just press the button!) ✅ Non-slip surface — water shoes optional ✅ Playground + bathrooms right there ✅ Benches all around My kids played for over an hour and didn’t want to leave. We’ll definitely be back this summer! #SacoMaine #MaineWithKids #SplashPadSeason #FamilyFunInMaine #AccessibleAdventures #MaineMoms #MainelyParents #ToddlerApproved #SummerInMaine #MaineAdventures #MaineTok

The girls played for a solid hour before getting a bit tired and opting to sit down for some water and a snack. We appreciated all the benches around the splash pad for parents and caregivers to sit and put their things. After they ate, they decided they were ready to head out. Even an hour was plenty to wear them out and they went on to sleep really well that night. Both of them are excited to go back again!

Tips for Visiting

  • Water shoes are optional — the surface is non-slip and water-friendly which we really appreciated. So water shoes are only needed if you want them.
  • Keep an eye on the weather. The splash pad will shut off automatically during storms for safety.
  • Bring snacks or drinks to enjoy nearby.
  • Supervise young children closely — I anticipate the splash pad will be very busy this summer between families and various rec programs and day camps who will be using it so be mindful of this and keep your kids close.
  • Don’t forget the basics — sunscreen, sun hats, towels, goggles, a healthy snack, water, etc. A change of clothes can be helpful too if your kids plan to also play on the playground. Again, there are bathrooms on site so it’s super easy to get kids changed before/after splashing.

Final Thoughts

The new Saco splash pad is a shining example of what’s possible when local businesses, city leaders, and residents come together. It’s a simple but meaningful addition to the community — offering free, accessible, and fun outdoor play for local families all summer long.

Whether you’re a Saco local or visiting from nearby, this is definitely worth a stop on your summer adventure list.
